JIM CARGILE
One of the greatest rewards of teaching is to occasionally have a student like David Curry—brilliant, dynamic, full of enthusiasm and ideas. In my 53 years as a teacher at UVA, David was one of the most memorable students. Working with him in a number of courses and later getting to know his wonderful family, is easy to recall, even at this distance in time and even with an aging memory. Easy too, is recalling the material I inflicted on David, since the years of class notes are in my files. In case it might be of interest to have an idea of the kind of thing David had to contend with, here is an opening lecture he would have heard.
