MARK LYON

About a decade ago, you asked me to write a two page paper on someone who I believed lived a life rich in eudaimonia. At the time, I chose Jimi Hendrix—to be clear, I still stand by that, with regard to relative virtuous means and all…but, as I sit here today, writing this in an egregiously late fashion as I did several Philosophy papers for you, I realize I could just as easily write that paper about you.

As a man. As a husband. As a father. As an educator, mentor and friend—I cannot think of anyone I know who has hit and continues to hit the virtuous mean in all of these arenas with more potency and accuracy than you, David. You are splitting arrows.

As your student: thank you for your mentorship and for your service to the Queen Science, Dr. Curry.

As your friend: thank you and congratulations, David. You are one of the most gifted communicators and educators I have ever met. I feel incredibly grateful to know you.
